Producers and Small Business Owners Gain Marketing Skills

Cash Cow Co-Op, Sioux Falls, SD, held a day long training sponsored by S.D. Specialty Producers Association at the Davison County 4-H/Extension Office on Sat., Jan. 22, 2022. ‘Simple Marketing for Vendors + Producers’ offered tips to help small business owners, vendors and producers.

Participants in the day-long event learned about tools they can access for assistance in creating social media calendars and content, as well as templates, logo designs, dos and don’ts, and when to post content for best impact marketing of your products. 

Co-Owners Damon Brown and Kristine Reiner of Cash Cow Co-Op shared their personal experiences on their journey to developing their business openly and with sincere interest in each participants goals and objectives. 

A thorough discussion was held on importance of knowing your market, targeting the audience with the right message, how to sell without selling, and getting people to search your social media site regularly for interesting content, tips and products that are unique for them. 

The importance of brand development and proper etiquette for posting and responding to comments was discussed. 

The importance of creation of a website landing page for your business was discussed and how to properly budget for expenses in doing so that meet your budget.  ‘Less is More’ was stressed and that websites help you to brand your business and draw people into a personal experience with your products. 

Participants drafted and critiqued ads for their own businesses to learn the principles of growing a following for your business online. 

One participant from Salas Salsas shared her ‘business start-up funding pitch’ for an upcoming competition and the group critiqued and encouraged her entrepreneurial drive while another participant had her husband bring in a bag of individually wrapped Sea Salt infused Carmels she sells and distributes through Sheetz Mercantile. 

Other participants, Weber Wagyu & Other Preferred Stock, Yankton Farmers Market and Black Ink Farms shared their product development and marketing experiences all agreeing that the information learned from Cash Cow Co-Op that day was beneficial to their businesses and were glad they attended!
