S.D. Local Foods Conference 2022

The S.D. Local Foods Conference is Nov. 17-19, 2022 at the Sturgis Community Center in Sturgis, SD. The conference will feature a variety of topics on specialty crop production, market gardening, pasture based systems, regenerative ag, food sovereignty, cooking with local foods, agritourism and more! Event also includes farm tours, local food meals, and vendors.

Thursday Pre-conference: Optional day-long session led by SDSU Extension’s Peggy Schlechter and Jacey Ellsworth with the S.D. Dept. of Tourism on Agritourism.  Event will address the topics such as visitor expectations, collaborations, developing a tour, communications with visitors, and action steps.

Keynote speaker: Hannah Breckbill of Humble Hands Harvest.  Hannah Breckbill crafted her farm in an intentional celebration of its embeddedness in and reliance upon a place-based community. Now in her tenth season, she has experience with all scales of community building: from the intimacy of a household or business partnership to the spiritedness of a weekend gathering to the complexity of a local food web. Hannah will share stories and insights from her career of bringing people together to create a better world.
