SDSPA Flower Growers Member Meetup- September 2025

The SDSPA Cut Flower Growers are hosting an online flower producer meetup for members on Wed., Sept. 24th at 12 p.m. CT/11 a.m. MT via Zoom.
Nick Volesky, SDSU Extension Horticulture and Specialty Crops Field Specialist I, will share about his previous research conducted in Utah on Optimizing Delphinium and Larkspur Through Timing and Protective Cultivation Methods for Cut Flower Production.
Cut flowers are an increasingly important specialty crop with the potential to redefine profit margins for small farms. Cool-season crops like delphinium and larkspur are underproduced locally but highly marketable. Volesky’s research evaluated spring planting dates, series and color performance, and the effects of 30% shade cloth on harvest timing, yield, and stem quality in both high tunnel and field production systems to develop region-specific production guidelines.
