S.D. Local Foods Coalition Meeting- July 2023

The next S.D. Local Foods Coalition meeting is July 18, 2023, in person at the Moose Lodge at AmericInn, (1981 E King St, Chamberlain, SD). Dr. Jennifer Zavaleta Cheek from SDSU, and her graduate assistant, Blake Pulse, will be facilitating a listening session among our members as an opportunity to provide feedback about the coalition and how it can continue to move project work forward. This Coalition is working to promote resilient, equitable local food systems, and food sovereignty for all.
We envision sustainable food economies in South Dakota that are diverse, thriving, and equitable. We work to strengthen local food systems by connecting stakeholders and amplifying their voices so that South Dakota producers, eaters, and environments thrive. Partnering organizations include SDSU Extension, S.D. Specialty Producers Association, Dakota Rural Action, S.D. Dept of Ag and Natural Resources, Travel S.D., Sicangu Community Development Corporation, Sisseton Wahpeton College, Value Added Agriculture Center, SDSU Local Foods Program, and the S.D. Animal Industry Board, as well as individual producers. Members are working within four subgroups areas:
- Food Security and Sovereignty, and Decentralization of the Food Economy
- Connecting to Federal and State Programs
- Farm to School
- Branding
