Farm Food Safety Training
Producer Food Safety Training will be offered Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the SDSU Regional Center in Sioux Falls (now located near Empire Mall, at 4101 W 38th St Suite #103). Register by noon on Feb. 3 by contacting Dr. Burrows.
The day will focus on common produce food safety risks, and steps growers can take to reduce these risks through management of growing conditions and post-harvest handling. FSMA Produce Rule and GAPs will be discussed so growers can understand the differences and whether their operation falls under FSMA rules. The development of individual farm food safety plans will be a goal of the training. Participants should bring a farm map if they have one (on a laptop or tablet is fine as long as it’s a form they can annotate), and laptops or tablets are encouraged.
The registration cost will be $65, which will include snacks and numerous handouts, but not lunch. Checks should be made out to “SDSU” and can be brought to the workshop.
Please contact Dr. Rhoda Burrows, rhoda.burrows@sdstate.edu or 605-394-2236 for further information. Pre-registration is required.
Note: This training will NOT fulfill FSMA training requirements for farms that fall under the Food Safety Modernization Act.
Don’t let the latest food safety outbreak happen on your farm!
