Transitioning to Organic Garlic Field Day Held
On Sept. 10, 2025 Prairie Coteau Farm in Astoria, SD hosted a field day focused on transitioning to organic garlic production. Attendees were able to learn directly from grower Kristianna Gehant Siddens about all things garlic growing including, seed garlic, planting and harvesting how-to, post-harvest practices, and storage strategies.
During the field walk Kristianna shared about their planting and harvesting equipment, drying shed, and storage. Kristianna is also the Lab Manager for the Ecdysis Foundation based in Estelline, SD, so she was able to share with attendees more about the foundation, their 1000 farms initiative, and past and future research.
