On July 22, 2025 S.D. Specialty Produces hosted a field day with SDSU and Haroldson Farms. Attendees were able to learn about USDA certified organic vegetable production, the TOPP program, and incorporating cover crops into organic vegetable production by learning about SDSU’s perennial cover crop trial.
The field day started with a walking tour of the vegetable production fields, high tunnels, and on-farm perennial cover cropping trials. Then attendees had the chance to hear from SD Transition to Organic Ag Advisor Dr. Angela Jackson about organic in South Dakota and the TOPP Program resources. After the tour, attendees were invited to share lunch at The Ridge in Bruce, SD prepared with local beef and vegetables from Haroldson Farms. During the meal attendees also had the chance to learn about SDSU water testing resources and producer resources from SARE.
