Regenerative Organic Field Day Held in Vermillion

Despite the intense heat, a successful RAPP field day was held at Prairiesun Organics on June 20, 2025. Producers, NRCS staff and youth came to the regenerative organic farm near Vermillion for a day of demonstrations and presentations.

The morning began with a wellcome from Dr. Angela K. Jackson, farm owner, who explained her and her husband’s farm philosophy and pointed out parts of their operation. NRCS staff then discussed soil health along with demonstrations on soil health through a wind simulator and rainfall simulator showing soil infiltration. Prairiesun owners Angela and Glen Pulse then showed their chicken processing plant and Glen demonstrated the no-till drill he just began using on the farm.

Guests drove into Vermillion to the public library for an organic lunch and the afternoon presentations due to the heat. There Dan Rasmussen, owner of The 33 Ranch near White River, showed slides of his ranch and talked about improvements they have made to gain greater regenerative and organic status for beef cattle they care for on pasture. Wrapping up the day Blake Burggraff presented his farm story as a next generation farmer near Hartford, who is transitioning to certified organic. He shared crop rotations and the importance of financial records.

The majority of participants who filled out a survey strongly agreed that they are either now more willing to work with regenerative organic producers or willing to adapt regenerative organic practices themselves.
