Organic Field Day Features Diversified Revenue Streams
On May 8, 2025 SDSPA hosted a Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP) field day at Berrybrook Organics in Marion, SD.
The field day focused on Diversified Organic Farming for Sustainable Revenue by showcasing Berrybook Organics‘ variety of markets from their egg business, to their row crops, and ice cream production. Attendees were able to see the egg cleaning and packaging equipment along with their ice cream production equipment.
Owners, Will and Sherilyn Ortman, shared how they integrate regenerative and organic practices, and risk management into a profitable system during the tour. Participants learned about soil health, cover crops, crop rotations, weed management strategies, buffer zones, and compliance with organic standards.
