S.D. Local Foods Coalition Jan. 2022 Update
In January 2022, supporters of local foods met at the SDSU Extension Pierre Regional Center and virtually, to plan with the S.D. Local Foods Coalition. Objectives of the meeting were to bring clarity to scope of the work of the coalition, bring focus to our goals for 2022 and bring specifics to some of the tasks ahead needed to achieve those goals.
In the morning, the four subcommittees worked to set goals for the year. These committees include farm to school, food sovereignty, state programming and branding.

In January 2022 the S.D. Local Foods Coalition met in Pierre and virtually to plan the scope of the work of the coalition, bring focus to goals for 2022 and to define tasks needed to achieve those goals.
During lunch from Drifters Bar & Grill, attendees were able to network and brainstorm unique ideas for the 2022 Local Foods Conference breakout sessions.
Following the lunch, focus shifted to the Coalition as a whole, and determining structure and goals. It was determined that in March, a board of two Co-Chairs, an outreach & membership officer, and one communications officer will be elected. It was also determined that the South Dakota Local Foods Facebook Page would be used as a way to communicate meeting dates & key information for the coalition and subcommittees.
Planning for the 2022 South Dakota Local Foods Conference has begun, with the next meeting Feb. 2, 2022 at 10 a.m. Central via zoom. Those interested in contributing to this should contact Jordan at DRA to sign up to be on the committee.
