Dreaming of Summer Fun: Upcoming Urban Ag Activities

It is only March and the SDSPA Urban Ag team is planning for summer fun.  Producers and partners can find the SDSPA team at the SDSPA field days, June 12 at Cedar Creek Farms and July 25 in Sanborn County for a series of three Flower Field Tours. We are visiting the Women in Ag Conference in June.

SDSPA believes in partnering up with other ag organizations is very important. We will assist our partners at SDSU field days west river June 16 and June 18.  Using Wool as a Soil Amendment Experiment Field Day is tentatively set for Aug 15 in Hot Springs. This is a project between SDSPA, SDSU and the NRCS.

Malisa Niles SDSPA Urban Ag Liaison will be presenting at the Christian Homeschooler of S.D. Conference in May on SDSPA newly created high school lessons. She will speak at the School Nutrition Association of S.D. on Farm to School June 25 and will attend the North Central Agricultural Research Laboratory Field Day July 9 to learn about current research in specialty crops.

While it seems like SDSPA is on the go this summer, we would love to visit specialty production operations across S.D. to provide insight, ideas and contacts to our growers and most importantly meet and serve our growers. Please reach out to Malisa Niles at sdspa.urbanag@gmail.com to schedule a visit.

SDSPA team will end the summer at the S.D. State Fair’s Value Added Ag Day. More information on all SDSPA events will be released soon as well as registration links. Stay tuned!
