Organic Vegetable Production Field Day Held at Bear Butte Gardens

On August 12th Michelle and Rick Grosek hosted a USDA TOPP (Transition to Organic) Field Day for interested producers at their farm Bear Butte Gardens in Sturgis, SD. Attendees learned about the farm’s overall objectives and goals  in organic farming as well as their practices. Attendees were able to see Bear Butte Garden’s high tunnel, gardens, and farm store while learning more about weed control and use of cover crops.

Then the group enjoyed a meal prepared by local chef Travis Bartels and spent the afternoon  networking and learning about resources for transitioning producers from SDSPA Organic Transition Advisor Dr. Angela Jackson.
