Specialty Producers Invited to Business Planning Workshop

Specialty producers are encouraged to spend a day focusing on developing their business plan at a free upcoming workshop on Nov. 14, 2023 at the SDSU Extension Pierre Regional Center, in Pierre, S.D.

The Business Planning Workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST, and will include time dedicated to going through the components of the business plan. The workshop will include presenters from the Small Business Development Center and the Value Added Agriculture Development Center.

Attendees will receive educational material including a business planning guide and workbook. The morning will include sessions on legal structure of businesses, permits, business overviews, management, and the market for your business. The afternoon will focus on the finance portion of your business plan. 

Each session will follow with individual work time. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or notebook.  After the workshop attendees will have a start on a business plan with elements needed to speak with lenders.

This business planning workshop is funded by a Specialty Crop Block Grant received by the South Dakota Specialty Producers Association, which aims to increase educational opportunities for producers.
