S.D. Local Foods Coalition ~ July 2022 Update

If you’re a supporter of building local foods in South Dakota, consider joining the bi-monthly Local Foods Coalition meetings & project work.  Indicate your interest here, or suggest an individual, farm or organization that you think the Coalition should reach out to.

At the July 19th meeting Tiffanie Stone, of the Natural Resource Ecology & Management Department at Iowa State University gave a fantastic presentation on why local foods matter through her presentation on ‘What are the Environmental Impacts of Local Food?’.

The Coalition also reviewed and confirmed that their email list and Facebook page can be used to promote educational opportunities that align with their mission and purpose.  Posts for the page can be sent by members to Communications Chair, Rachel Saum

A logo for the Coalition was also proposed, for which there was unanimous excitement for the design.  It  will be promoted publicly once slight tweaks are made.

The four subcommittees (Food Security and Sovereignty, Connecting producers to state and federal programming, Supporting Farm to school initiatives, and Statewide local foods branding) provided updates of their work.

The next Coalition meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022 at 2 pm central/ 1 pm mountain.
