Seeking Volunteers for Farmers Market Pricing Project
Do you enjoy shopping at your local farmers market, and want to help your local producers? The South Dakota Farmers Market Coalition is looking for individuals to collect pricing data from South Dakota Farmers Markets and Farmstands.
This data is compiled and shared, giving producers more information to use when setting their own prices. Vendors have emphasized the value in having this information available, but vendors and market managers typically do not have time to collect the data. This is where we are looking for help from community volunteers. Master Gardeners are also able to report up to 5 hours for this community service.
Volunteers would be asked to collect prices at several points throughout the season (approximately 3-4 times) on about a dozen products that are common at that point in time. You would be provided with a list of specific products to collect prices on, a date range to collect the prices, and a link to upload the prices found at your market.
When published, the specific market names are not kept associated with the prices. An example of the pricing results from 2021 can be found at the S.D. Specialty Producers Association website.
If you would be willing to help gather pricing data this year, please email the following information SDSPA.
- Your first and last name
- Email address
- Name of the market(s) you’d be willing to visit to collect data from
- County(ies) you plan to visit market(s)
We will respond to your offer of assistance with further instructions if selected. If multiple individuals wish to volunteer for the same market, we will let you know so you can work together.
Thank you for your consideration of assisting with this project, as having a large pool of data will give a more accurate representation of fair prices that our producers can, and should, be asking for their products.
