Berry & Hops Producer Tours in Wagner & Armour, SD June 24

The South Dakota Specialty Producers Association has coordinated 11 producer tours kicking off June 24 and running through September 9. Local producers, chefs, consumers and organizations involved in local or specialty foods are encouraged to attend the free tours.

On June 24th there will be Berries & Hops producer tours starting at Stewart’s Aronia Acres (29870 293rd Avenue/ Wagner, SD) at 10:00 a.m. Following the tour, owners Jeff and Jolene Stewart will present information on Growing Berries in South Dakota.

At 12:45, tour participants and organizers meet for lunch at the Blue Moon Bar & Grill in Armour, SD (708 2nd Street). Only those that want to eat lunch need to register. Payment for lunch will be to Blue Moon Bar & Grill. The cost is approximately $10.

At 2:00 p.m., participants will tour Srstka’s Hops Farm (314 Braddock Avenue/Armour, SD). At 3:00 p.m., Perry Volden of Ben’s Brewing Company (Yankton) will present on the topic, Hops in the Brewing Industry.

The event is sponsored by South Dakota Specialty Producers Association in partnership with the American Culinary Federation Black Hills Chapter of Professional Chefs, SDSU Extension, South Dakota Department of Agriculture, Northern Plains Sustainable Ag and USDA.

Please note that chefs can receive 2.00 CEH’s for each location. Master Gardeners can receive Continuing Education credits for participating in tours and volunteer hours for helping with tours. Contact Cory Tomovick (sdspamembers@gmail.com) if you wish to participate.
